What is CharityVillage® Campus?

CharityVillage.com® Campus is great way to supplement your professional development through a series of self-paced eLearning that you can take from your home or office computer. Most of the eLearning offerings through Campus are self-paced courses that you can complete all at once, or a little at a time. Each course contains a series of self-tests throughout, as well as an optional final exam.

If you are looking for a learning experience that is designed to take you straight from the course material to application on the job, these courses are for you. Each course provides downloadable information, templates, guides and cheat-sheets that you can take and start using right away.

CharityVillage.com® Campus courses are also accredited by CFRE, CAVR and PAVR-O. Participation in Campus courses is applicable for points toward initial certification or recertification. Click here for more information on professional certification credits.


How much do courses cost?

How can I pay for my courses?

From My Desk once you select the course(s) you wish to take, and then select the "press order" button, you will have an option to pay by credit card, or to be invoiced.

CharityVillage.com® does not store your credit card information, so you will have to enter it each time you place an order.

If you select invoice me, you will be prompted to ensure that your billing address is correct. If there are any corrections to be made, simply go to the tab entitled My account and update your information.

How do credit card charges appear on my statement?

Purchases to your Visa or Master Card will appear as CHARITY VILLAGE TORONTO ON.


Is there a discount if I want to order a number of courses at once?

Yes, if you would like to order multiple copies of our courses for your entire board or staff, please contact your local account manager and let us know how many licences you'd like to order of each course.

From time to time, we may also offer Special Offers on course bundles. Please check the site regularly to hear more about them.


What's your refund policy?

Find complete details of our Satisfaction Guarantee here. In short, if you aren't happy, we'll fix it. Period.


What kinds of courses do you offer?

Through CharityVillage.com® Campus, you have access to all our courses developed with nonprofit audiences in mind – no time; not a lot of budget; and need tools and information yesterday. Our courses are designed with these constraints and needs built in. They're written by nonprofit practitioners who are leaders in their area of interest. They've been where you are, and want to share their learning with you.

Courses such as Grantseeking, Budgeting for Nonprofits, Event Planning, Boards that Work and Volunteer Management are just a few of our offerings. See a complete list of available courses.


How do I buy a course?

CharityVillage.com® Campus courses can be purchased by using your credit card through our secure eCommerce portal, or by selecting to be invoiced.

Follow these steps to purchase a course:

1. Login to your account.

2. Select the Courses tab on My Desk.

3. Select the option to Buy a Course. Don't worry, this won't commit you to a purchase right away, it will show you the options available.

4. You will see a list of courses that are available to purchase.

5. Click the checkboxes of the course(s) you are interested in. It will appear highlighted in orange. Then select the Buy Now button. If you have selected a course in error, simply click it a second time and the option will be deselected.

6. Once you've selected Buy Now, you'll be shown your Billing Summary. To continue with your purchase, select the Place Order button on the lower left of your screen.

7. The next screen asks you to verify how you would like to pay, by secure credit card transaction or to be invoiced. Select whichever payment you prefer.

8. Once you have completed your transaction, you will see a confirmation message on the screen. Click on the Back to Desk button in the lower right corner of your screen, then select the Courses tab to get started

You'll see the new course(s) you've purchased listed in Your Courses. You can get started right away!



What is a PIN code and how do I use it?

A PIN code is a unique identifying series of numbers/letters that indicates an individual has prepaid for one or more courses. Most commonly, someone in your organization may have a series of PIN codes which they can distribute to others in their organization in order to give them access to a CharityVillage® Campus course.

If you use a PIN code to select a course, you do not have to pay for it. It's already been paid for either by you or the individual who has given it to you.

How to sign up for a course using a PIN code:


1. Login to your CharityVillage.com® account.
If you do not have an account, click here to create your CharityVillage.com® account.

2. Go to My Desk and select the Courses tab.

3. On the left hand side of your screen, you'll see a blue box with an option to either Buy a course or Redeem a PIN code. Select Redeem a PIN code.

4. A pop-up window will prompt you to enter your PIN code.

5. Enter the PIN code you have been provided with into the text box. Press OK.

6. You will see a list of courses that are available to you, based on the PIN you have entered.

7. Select your course by clicking on the course title. Your selection will be highlighted in orange. If this is the course you wish to take, select Redeem PIN. If you have made an error, select Cancel and reselect the appropriate course, then Redeem PIN.

8. After you have selected Redeem PIN, you will see a confirmation message that your course has been selected and added to your account. Select OK to return to the Courses tab in your account.

9. You will see the course in the list of My Courses. Whenever you're ready to get started, go to the Select drop down menu on the right, and select the Start/Resume option. Enjoy!

How do the courses work?

Each course is self-paced, meaning that you can start or stop it anytime you like. Most courses take 1-4 hours to complete. CharityVillage® Campus custom courses are all 3-month licenses, so you can log in and out as often as you like during the three months you have access to the course.

As part of each course, you will find optional self-tests that you can complete along the way to make sure that you are retaining what you're learning. As well, you will find numerous downloadable resources that you can keep even after you have finished the course. These downloadable resources are in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat PDF format, so you can choose the format that's most suitable for you.

At the end of most courses, you'll find an optional final quiz that will review the key learning objectives of the course. If you pass with a mark of 70% or greater, you'll be able to download a certificate of completion.


Who teaches the courses?

The courses are all self-directed, meaning that there is no live instructor. You follow the course at your own pace. Experts in the subject matter have written all of our courses, so you are getting quality information and resources, but learning at the pace that suits you best.


If the courses only take a few hours, why do I get access for three months?

Most of the CharityVillage® Campus courses can be completed in 2-3 hours or less if you take the course all at once. We give you access to the course for 90 days so that you can progress at your own pace and log back in to review the lessons and resources as often as you'd like. We know that it's nice to be able to refer back to your learning materials or refresh your understanding of something while you're putting the ideas to use in your daily work.


How can I tell if a course is suitable for my skill level?

Our courses are best suited for the following individuals:

In general, our courses are designed to provide a broad overview of any given topic. By taking a course on a particular subject, you will come away with a much better understanding of the content, some tools and templates that you can start using immediately, and a much better understanding of specific issues or areas that you may wish to delve into in greater detail elsewhere.

When you're logged in to your account, you have options to try our courses, or test your knowledge on the subject matter to help you assess if the course is right for you. The image below illustrates where you can find these options from the Courses tab in your account.

Can I print out parts of the course for personal reference?

Yes, you will find numerous downloadable resources in each course. They are available in both Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF formats.


Can I earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) or certification credits for these courses?

Should I take the courses in a certain order?

For courses where we recommend prerequisites, we'll tell you about our recommendations in the course description. Most courses can be taken in any order.

How will you keep my credit card information safe?

CharityVillage.com® is PCI compliant, level 4. Essentially that means that eCommerce with CharityVillage.com® is secure. We do not keep your credit card information in any electronic or other file. Therefore, you will need to re-enter your credit card information for each unique transaction.

If you are hesitant about providing your credit card for the purchase of a CharityVillage® Campus course, you can simply select the Invoice me option.


What kind of software do I need to run these courses?

The technology requirements for these courses vary slightly from course to course. For most courses, you'll just need a web browser and a sound card with speakers or headphones. Please check the Minimum Requirements section of each course description for specific requirements for that course. In general, for our courses, you'll need a computer with the following:



Why doesn't the course open when I try to launch it?

Your web browser may be set to hide pop-up windows.
To temporarily allow a site to display pop-ups, click the Information Bar when it notifies you that a pop-up has been blocked. Then click Temporarily Allow Pop-ups.

If you are using Internet Explorer:
You can change your Pop-up blocker settings using the following steps:
1. On the Tools menu, point to Pop-up Blocker, and then click Pop-up Blocker Settings.
2. If you want to see pop-up windows from a specific web site, type the address (or URL) of the site in the Address of Web site to allow box, and then click Add.
3. Click Close on the Pop-up Blocker Settings window.

If you are using Firefox:
To unblock a pop-up window that Firefox has blocked follow these steps:
1. Click on the pop-up blocker toolbar to display the blocker menu.
2. From the menu select the Allow popups for CharityVillage.com option
3. Reload the page

To change your Firefox settings to allow pop-ups:
1. From the Tools menu select Options
2. Click on the Web Features tab located on the left of the window
3. In there you will see a ticked option called Block Popup Windows, to the right of this is a button titled Allowed Sites click on this button
4. In the Address of web site field enter charityvillage.com and click Allow. The CharityVillage® Campus website should now appear in the list of allowed sites as shown below.
5. Click OK twice to save and exit.

If you are using Safari (on a Mac):
1. Click on Safari from the Safari menu
2. Make sure that Block Pop-up Windows is not checked
2. If Block Pop-up Windows has a checkmark beside it, then click Block Pop-up Windowsto un-check


If the above steps do not fix the problem:
In addition to the pop-up blocker built into your web browser, you may have other pop-up blockers installed on your computer. Each of these additional pop-up blockers will need to be set to allow pop-ups from CharityVillage.

If the Google toolbar is installed:

To unblock a pop-up window that the Google toolbar has blocked, follow these steps:
1. Log in to your CharityVillage.com account and click the Courses tab
2. Click the Google toolbar Pop-up button.

3. You may also need to select an option to allow pop-ups from CharityVillage.com.

To change your Google toolbar settings to allow pop-ups:
1. Click the settings button on the Google toolbar
2. Click Options to open the Google Toolbar options window.
3. Click the 'More' tab.
2. Look for the "Popup Blocker" group of options and un-check the "Enable Pop-Up Blocker" checkbox


I can't see the whole course window on my screen?

If you can't see the whole course, you should adjust your screen settings to make sure your monitor resolution is set to 1024x768. For instructions on how to change your screen resolution, use the link corresponding to your computer/operating system:

When I click on the link in the course slide, the document doesn’t launch. What can I do?

Every now and then you may come across a link in one of the courses that isn’t working. There are a few different reasons why this might happen. The good news is the file is still available to download.

1. Click on the “Resources” link at the top right hand of the course control panel. This will give you a full list of the downloadable documents associated with the course.

2. You can then scroll through the list of resources until you find the one you are looking for.

What other courses and eLearning options will you be offering?

We plan to develop a full suite of CharityVillage.com® Campus custom courses that are targeted at nonprofit professionals. Soon, CharityVillage.com® Campus will also feature other eLearning tools, including webinars and podcasts. Any eLearning products will cover a breadth and depth of nonprofit topics. How do I sign up for an account?

At CharityVillage.com®, you only need one account to receive alerts from the Career Centre, sign up for Campus courses, or advertise with us.

If you already have an account at CharityVillage.com®, then you will now see a courses tab in your account.

If you don't currently have an account with us, it's free to sign up! click here to create your CharityVillage.com® account.

You can also access the account registration page from CharityVillage Main Street: just select the For Campus e-Training and follow the instructions. Your email address is your login name. You will get an email with instructions to verify your account. Once you've done that you're on your way!

How do I update my account information?

Your can manage most of your account information on My Desk.

1. Login to your account. From My Desk select the My account tab.

How do I provide feedback to CharityVillage.com® about my Campus experience?

We appreciate hearing your feedback. In fact, we read every one in order to continue to provide quality, relevant eLearning programs.

You can provide us with your feedback directly from your account at CharityVillage.com®:

1. Login to your account.

2. Select the Courses tab on My Desk.

3. To the right of the course you'd like to give us feedback on, drop down the Select menu, and choose Give Feedback.

4. Once you click Give Feedback, you'll see a Feedback form to complete and submit. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.

How do I take the exam for my course?

The exams at CharityVillage.com® Campus are optional. However, they're a great way to test your knowledge. Here's how:

1. Login to your account.

2. Select the Courses tab on My Desk.

3. To the right of the course you'd like to take the exam for, drop down the Select menu, and choose Take Exam.

Can I start the exam now and finish it later?

You can complete the exam in phases, if you wish. The questions you've answered will be saved for you to review when you revisit the exam again.

Here's how to continue or complete an exam in progress:

1. Login to your account.

2. Select the Courses tab on My Desk.

3. Your Courses tab has three distinct sections. The first, My Courses, lists all the courses you've purchased; the second section entitled Exams/Certificates either completed or started; and finally My PIN Codes stores any PIN codes you may have.

As soon as you've started an exam, it will appear in the Exams/Certificates section. To return to an exam you've already started, select Continue Exam from the drop down menu under the Select button.

How many times can I try the exam?

You can try the exam three times.

In the image below, you can see that the learner did not achieve the passing grade of 70% in their first try of the exam for Budgeting for Nonprofits. The drop down menu will then provide you with the options to review the exam; try it again; or give feedback.

If you've tried it three times and haven't achieved the grade that you'd hoped for, we would be happy to reset the exam for you. Click here to contact your local account representative.



What mark do I need to achieve to get a CharityVillage.com® certificate on my exam?

You'll need a mark of 70% in order to generate a CharityVillage.com® certificate of completion.


I passed my exam! Where do I get my certificate?

Congratulations! Once you achieve the passing grade of 70% or greater, the drop down menu will provide you with the option to print the certificate in the Exams/Certificate section of your Courses. On your learner desk, you can also see how many attempts you've made at an exam, and each result.

How long do I have to complete the course before my license expires?

The license for each course is three months. The three month period begins from the day you start the course. During this time, you can review the course as many times as you wish, or access the additional resources. Should your course expire before you have completed it, please contact us and we'll be happy to extend it for you.

My three month license expired and I wasn't finished yet. Can I renew my license?

We'd be happy to renew your license for you, with no additional charges. Just give your local account representative a call, and they'll get things rolling for you again.

Where can I find a copy of my CharityVillage.com® invoice?

There is a record of all your transactions with us in your account. Here's where you find them, and see their status:

1. Login to your account.

2. Select the History tab on My Desk.

3. You'll see a list of your invoices, their status (paid or unpaid), and a description of your purchase.

4. To review or print a copy of your invoice, simply click on one of the invoice numbers that's underlined, and a copy of your invoice will appear on your screen.
